WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College's strong second half surge fell short in an 87-78 setback against St. Mary's in a United East men's basketball game Saturday. The Seahawks improved to 6-1 UE, 11-9 overall, while the Wildcats fell to 3-5, 6-14.
How it happened: Penn College took an early 6-2 lead, two minutes into the game, before SMC scored eight straight to go ahead 10-6.
David Brown's three, with 14:31 on the clock, pulled PCT within one, 10-9, before the Seahawks went on a 15-7 run and eventually led 47-27 at halftime.
The Wildcats opened the second half with a 15-3 spurt to pull within eight, 50-42, on a
Livingston Cross layup with 15:09 left in the game. The Seahawks eventually built a 61-44 lead, with 12:03 remaining and held a double-digit lead until the final seconds of the game.
Inside the box:
Gavin Barrett finished with a game-high 28 points and game-best five assists. Cross netted 20 points, and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, for his 11
th double-double of the season.
Six players reached double-figures in scoring for the Seahawks.
