READING, Pa. –
Livingston Cross' layup with three seconds left lifted Penn College to a 92-91 win over Penn State Berks in a United East men's basketball game Tuesday. The Wildcats improved to 4-5 United East, 7-14 overall, while the Nittany Lions dropped to 2-7, 3-16.
How it happened: Penn College held an 84-77 lead, with 3:28 left in the game, when Berks hit consecutive threes to get within one, 84-83, with 2:54 on the clock. The Lions knotted the game at 85 before taking an 87-85 advantage with 1:56 left in the game.
Gavin Barrett's traditional three-point play seconds later put PCT in charge, 88-87. Following two more ties in the ensuing 1:30 of the game, the Lions converted a pair of free throws to go ahead, 91-90, with eight ticks remaining. Cross converted his game-winning layup with three seconds left and Berks missed on a long three-point attempt.
The first half featured several lead changes and three ties in the opening 14 minutes. The game was deadlocked for the final time in the first at 31 with 6:50 left before halftime. PCT built a 40-35 lead on
Alec Cooper's jumper with 3:24 on the clock and the Wildcats eventually headed into the locker room ahead, 47-46.
Inside the box: Barrett and Cross shared game-high honors with 22 points each, while
Landon Reeder added 16 and
David Brown finished with 12. Reeder also grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds.
