Wildcats Snap Slide, Down Berks 71-52

READING, Pa. --  Mia Patterson recorded a double-double while Emily Pardee and Rachel Teats also hit double figure scoring totals, leading Penn College women's basketball to a 71-52 United East victory at Penn State Berks on Tuesday night. The Wildcats improve to 2-7 in conference play, 6-16 overall to snap a five-game slide and remain in the No. 6 slot for the playoff positioning. Berks falls to 0-9, 1-18 this season.

How it happened: Penn College's offense was clicking all game as the team shot 50% (29-58) on the night. The Wildcats put up a season-best 24 points in the first quarter alone for a 13-point advantage after 10 minutes. The Wildcats started the game with a 10-1 run capped by a Bell Hitesman layup three minutes in. Allie Troup gave the Wildcats their first 10-point lead at 16-6 midway through the frame with her first basket of the night and Teats finished off the impressive first quarter nailing a triple for the 24-11 lead. 

A Patterson layup at the 5:16 mark in the second quarter gave the 'Cats a 31-19 lead before Berks gained momentum and went on a 10-4 run to close the half with the score sitting at 35-29 in favor of Penn College. 

Out of the break, the Wildcats' defense took over, holding Berks to just four points in the third quarter and balloon the margin to 20 points (53-33) by the end of the quarter. Patterson hit the 10-point mark with a layup at 4:23 for a 40-31 Wildcat advantage and Pardee added a basket a minute later for her 12th point of the night while Troup closed out the quarter with a layup and free throw in the final 20 seconds. 

Teats gave the Wildcats their largest lead of the night (15) with a basket with four minutes remaining in the fourth to make it 68-43 as Penn College was able to close out the month of January in the win column. 

Inside the box: Patterson scored a season high in points (16), rebounds (11) and steals (6) to lead  the Wildcats in all three categories in the game while Pardee finished with 13 points and five boards. Teats added 13 points and a team-best five assists.

Up next: Penn College returns to Bardo Gym for the final time this season on Saturday, Feb. 3, to host Lancaster Bible for Senior Day at 3 p.m.
