WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College women's basketball dropped 26 points in the fourth quarter and outscored visiting Lancaster Bible 45-39 in the second half, but the Chargers were able to hold for a 74-65 final in United East action on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats are 2-8 in league competition, 6-17 overall with two regular season games left while the Chargers are 5-5, 7-14.
How it happened: The Chargers raced out to a 14-5 lead after the first quarter and held a 14-point advantage (23-9) with 6:30 to go in the half before the Wildcats started to close the gap. An
Emily Pardee layup cut the deficit down to single digits (25-17) and a
Lexi Troup triple pulled PCT within seven (27-20) with a minute left before the half. LBC closed with an 8-0 for a 35-20 lead.Â
The Chargers extended to their largest lead of the game (40-20) two minutes into the third quarter before
Bell Hitesman stopped the run with a layup and turned it into an 8-0 Wildcat run over the next four minutes.
Keeley Baker completed the run with a layup of her own to make the score 40-28 at the 5:36 mark.Â
Baker pulled the Wildcats to a 53-43 deficit with 8:48 to go in the fourth quarter and Pardee got the deficit back to single-digits (55-46) as the duo were a big presence in the paint throughout the second half. Penn College continued to gain ground in the final minutes as
Rachel Teats drained a three for a six-point game (71-65) but with just 35 seconds remaining, the 'Cats comeback ran out of time.
Inside the box: Four Wildcats reached double-digits led by Pardee's 12-point, 10-rebound double-double. Teats tallied a team-high 18 points and three steals and was joined by Baker (14) and
Lexi Troup (13) in the scoring column. Troup dished out a team-best five assists.
Allie Troup finished with five points and
Bell Hitesman scored a layup while
Shelby Pyatt grabbed a rebound as the trio were honored before the game for Senior Day.
LBC was led by a pair of 20-point performances out of Alaysha Iwais (21) and Jenna Dombach (20).
Up next: Penn College is back on the court next Saturday at Penn State Abington at 3 p.m., and completes its regular season at Gallaudet on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
