ROSEMONT, Pa. -- Penn College defeated Rosemont, 3-1 in a United East Conference women's volleyball match on Tuesday evening. The Wildcats' win puts them at 1-0 in the league for the first time in the program's NCAA D-III era. Penn College is 3-13 overall while the Ravens fell to 0-1, 0-12 overall.
How it happened: The Wildcats earned set scores of 25-22, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-14 to snap a seven-match skid and the team claimed their first conference victory since defeating Bryn Athyn in 2017.
With the score knotted at 20 in set one, the Wildcats reeled off four-straight points including two
Ava Harple kills and two
Lana Howard aces before earning the set win on a Rosemont service error.
After the Ravens leveled the match with a set two win, the Wildcats outlasted the Ravens in a back-and-forth third frame until
Ava Harple closed the set with another kill.
Penn College pulled away in the fourth set with a five-point run including three aces from Navaeh Ward for an 18-11 score. The Wildcats finished off the match with a Harple kill and
Jo Hess ace for the victory.
Inside the box: Harple led the Wildcats' offense with a .500 hitting percentage and a team-best 12 kills. Ward was all over the floor as she added eight kills, seven aces and nine digs and
Lana Howard finished with nine kills and four aces.
Jo Hess tallied 24 digs and
Laney Wolfe had a team-best 11 digs.
