WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Two quick first-half goals and a
Megan Kurian hat-trick propelled Penn College to a 6-0 United East Conference victory over Wilson on Wednesday evening at UPMC Field. With the victory, Penn College clinched its third-straight playoff appearance and eighth postseason berth in the NCAA-era. The Wildcats remain unbeaten with a 4-0-1 UEC mark, 11-0-4 overall, while dropping the Phoenix to 2-3-0, 9-3-2 overall.
How it happened:Â Â Penn College pressed early and held possession of the ball on the Wilson half of the field, setting up for its second corner in the 16th minute.
Cassie Johnson sent the ball in from the left corner and
Lucy Kontir put the finishing touch for the game's opening goal at 15:31.Â
The Wildcats' next chance came a minute later when
Makayla Bucks connected with Kurian who buried her 19th goal of the season in the bottom left for a 2-0 lead which Penn College held until the half. Kurian finished off her hat-trick performance in the second half at the 49:55 and 55:47 marks. After a Wilson foul just outside the 20,
Cassie Johnson rocketed her sixth goal of the year in the 64th minute. A Wilson own goal off an
Ashley Gordon corner stretched the final total to 6-0.
Inside the box: Penn College outshot Wilson, 25-3 (14-1 on-goal) and tallied seven corners.
Nicole Lichtinger stopped one shot en route to her 10th shutout of the year.
