WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College battled Cairn in a 1-1 draw, adding one more point to the United East Conference men's soccer standings in the Wildcats final home regular season contest on Tuesday night at UPMC Field. The Wildcats moved to 4-1-2 in league matches (9-4-3 overall) and have a firm grip of the sixth seed in the postseason race, Cairn is 6-0-1 (9-2-5 overall) to hold down the three seed with just one regular season match remaining.
How it happened: Tommy DeGeyter fired off a successful penalty kick goal in the ninth minute of actino after
Jimmy Friedman was dragged down inside the box to get the action started. In the 31st minute, Cairn found the equalizer with a goal. The two sides would play a fast-paced match for the remainder of the first half and all 45 minutes of the second, combining for 12 shots-on-goal (four by the Wildcats), but neither side were able to get enough room for the go-ahead goal.
Inside the box: DeGeyter netted his team-leading sixth goal of the season which puts him in a tie for ninth in the league while
Justin Potts turned away six shots in his second consecutive 90 minutes of action in net. Friedman,
Logan Stapleton and
Angelo Gudonis all booted a ball on frame, but was scooped up by the Highlanders' keeper.
Penn College held an 8-5 advantage in corners.
Up next: The Wildcats wrap up its regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m., when they travel to Valley Forge.Â
