WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College used a second half score to knock off Keystone College, 1-0, in the first round of the United East men's soccer playoffs. The Giants concluded their season at 2-4-2, while the Wildcats improved to 11-4-3.
Penn College advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals, 7 p.m., at Cairn.
How it happened: The Wildcats struggled in the first half to find quality shots on goal as Keystone "packed it in" on the defensive side. Penn College had several wayward shots and only on two on frame,
Logan Pietrzak's shots in the 32
nd and 43
rd minutes, in the first half.
Penn College solved Keystone's defense in the second half as
Austin Stapleton put two on frame, and
Scott Goldfeder added another, in the opening ten minutes. The Wildcats found the back of the net in the 67
th minute when
Robert Antonini scored his goal of the season after
Logan Pietrzak's pass split two defenders and Antonini finished the pass.
Inside the box: Penn College outshot Keystone, 14-5 (6-0 on-goal) and held a 2-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Cole Catherman picked up his 10
th win in goal for the Wildcats.
