KEUKA, N.Y. -- Penn College's comeback fell just short in a 69-61 final against Keuka in nonconference women's basketball action on Tuesday evening. The Wildcats record fell to 1-4, while the Wolves moved to 2-3.
How it happened: The Wildcats clawed back from a 50-30 deficit with 5:25 to go in the third quarter as
Gigi Parlante and
Rachel Teats hit a pair of layups and
Emily Pardee completed an old-fashioned three-point play to make it a 13-point game.
Lexi Troup dropped a pair of free throws at the end of the third to cut the deficit to 55-39 entering the final frame.Â
Penn College outscored Keuka, 22-14 in the fourth quarter and used a 17-10 from the start to get back within a single-digit deficit following a Parlante layup with 3:24 to go, but the Wildcats would convert just one more Troup layup down the stretch as time ticked away.
The Wildcats' hot start to the game saw the visitors take a 9-3 lead before the Wolves closed out the first quarter with a 13-12 lead and used a 27-point second quarter to take a 40-23 halftime lead.
Inside the box: Parlante finished with her second-straight double-double game in a game-high 18-point, 17-rebound effort. Troup stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, five boards, two assists and a steal while Pardee was the third Wildcat in double figures with 15 points and fell a rebound shy of a double-double.
