ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn College dropped a 69-63 decision to Penn State Altoona in a nonconference women's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats fell to 1-6, while the Nittany Lions improved to 2-4.
How it happened:
Lexi Troup's layup gave PCT its final lead of the half, 4-2, with 6:52 left in the first quarter. Altoona answered with a 17-6 run to end the quarter ahead, 19-10. The Lions held a double-digit lead for the majority of the second quarter and led 34-24 at the break.
The Wildcats clawed its way back in the third quarter before trailing 51-40 with 2:15 on the clock. PCT responded with a layup from
Kenni Galbreath, and two buckets by
Rachel Teats, to pull within five, 51-46 at the end of the third. The Wildcats opened the fourth with six straight points, on layups from Galbreath,
Gigi Parlante, and
Emily Pardee, to deadlock the game at 51 with eight minutes remaining in the contest. After Altoona regained the lead, Penn College responded with a 5-0 run to take a 56-55 lead, on a Pardee jumper, with 4:46 left. The Lions answered with a 14-7 spurt to end the game.
Inside the box: Parlante scored a game-high 26 points, and grabbed a game-best 16 rebounds for her fourth double-double of her rookie campaign. Pardee added 16 points, while Teats finished with 10.
