Wildcats Get Hot in Middle Quarters, Take Down Berks

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. -- Penn College scored 45 of its 64 points in the second and third quarters in an offensive explosion to defeat Penn State Berks, 64-38 in United East action on Saturday on the campus of Penn State Schuylkill. The Wildcats improved to 3-0 in the conference, 4-6 overall while dropping Berks to 0-3 UE, 0-9.

How it happened: After a 10-10 tie through the first 10 minutes of action, the Wildcats exploded on a 14-4 run capped by a Rachel Teats steal and fastbreak layup to hand Penn College a 26-14 lead. Lexi Troup started the run with the first basket of the quarter as the Teats and Troup duo both scored six points through the run while Gigi Parlante and Emily Pardee scored a layup.

A Galbreath bucket and Pardee layup closed out the half to give the Wildcats a 32-16 lead heading into the break.

Midway through the Wildcats' 23-point third quarter, Pardee hit two free throws to stretch Penn College's lead to 40-19, and Parlante made it a 30-point game, 49-19 with an old-fashioned three-point play at 3:50 on the clock.

Inside the box: Parlante secured her fourth-straight double-double, her seventh of the season, finishing with a team-high 15 points while grabbing 14 rebounds including nine on the defensive end. Troup (11) and Teats (10) also finished in double digits for the Wildcats while Galbreath finished just shy of a double-double, with nine points and eight rebounds. Pardee tallied six points while also coming down with six boards and dishing out seven assists.

Penn College forced 16 turnovers and poked away 12 steals and grabbed a season-high 58 rebounds in the victory.

Up next: The Wildcat close out their fall semester with a pair of home contests against Centenary (Monday) and Alfred State (Tuesday), both games tip-off at 6 p.m.
