ABINGTON, Pa. – Penn College knocked off Penn State Abington, 94-91, in a United East men's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 5-6 United East, 8-15 overall, while the Nittany Lions fell to 2-10, 8-16.
The win secured Penn College the No. 4 seed in next week's United East playoffs and the Wildcats will host a first-round Volt Division contest next Saturday.
How it happened: The Lions held a 25-12 lead midway through the first half before Penn College went on a 13-5 run to get within five, 30-25, on a
Livingston Cross layup with 7:24 left before halftime. After Abington built a 38-29 advantage, with 4:36 on the clock, the Wildcats chipped away to pull within four, 43-39, at halftime.
Abington led 59-47, with 15:50 left in the game, but PCT answered with a 17-5 spurt to the tie the game at 64 on
Alec Cooper's trey with 10:10 remaining in the game. Following two more deadlocks, the final one occurring with 4:37 left in the contest and tied at 81, Cross put the Wildcats ahead for good with a layup with 4:14 on the clock.
Gavin Barrett's jumper with one minute left extended the Wildcats lead to 92-84, and Penn College lead never went below two-possessions until the final three seconds.
Inside the box: Cross scored a game-high 35 points, and grabbed a game-best 17 rebounds, for his 13
th double-double of the season. Barrett added 27 points, with a game-high seven assists, and
Landon Reeder finished with 18 points.
