WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Penn College's
Rachel Teats led the women's basketball team with 17 points despite the Wildcats falling 65-47 in the regular season finale at Gallaudet on Wednesday night. The Wildcats finish the season 2-10 in United East Volt Division action, 6-19 overall while the Bison finish 10-2, 17-8.
How it happened: The Wildcats played from beyond the arc early to gain a 15-10 advantage as all 15 points came from long-range shots.
Lexi Troup scored the first two triples of the night, followed by
Allie Troup and
Rachel Teats. Allie splashed in another one at the 3:23 mark for the five-point advantage.
Emily Pardee added a free throw before Gallaudet closed the first quarter with a 18-16 lead.Â
A 28-10 run through the second quarter sparked the Bison offense for a 46-26 halftime lead. The Wildcats chipped away at the lead in the third with
Mia Patterson dropping in a layup and
Keeley Baker converting a pair of free throws early. Teats scored the last nine points of the third quarter to make the score 53-41 entering the final frame.Â
A Teats three at the 7:15 mark in the fourth pulled the Wildcats the closest they would get at 55-44, before the Bison held strong for the 65-47 final.
Inside the box: Teats added a team-best five assists and grabbed four rebounds while Allie and
Lexi Troup both finished with nine points. Pardee (6) and Patterson (5) combined for 11 rebounds.Â
Up next: The Wildcats advance to the first round of the United East playoffs on Saturday as the sixth seed. Penn College will travel to #3 Penn State Abington with a time to be determined.Â
