WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --
Devin Page led the Penn College men's lacrosse team with a hat-trick, accounting for four goals, but the Wildcats dropped a 10-9 decision to Westminster in the Wildcats' home opener on Wednesday. Penn College drops to 0-2 while the Titans are 1-0 this season.
How it happened: Westminster opened the game with two goals at the 12:33 and 8:30 marks before
Will Ehret got the Wildcats on the board at the 5:04 mark. The Titans scored the next two goals across the first and second quarters for a 6-1 lead.
Penn College went on a four-goal run with three coming from the stick of Page. His first coming just seven seconds before the half,
Ian Stambaugh scored 30 seconds into the third quarter and Page followed with two more goals to pull the Wildcats within one (6-5) with 11 minutes left in the third quarter.Â
In the fourth, Penn College tied the game at 8-8 on a rocket by
Harrison Schlachta with 9:53 left on the clock. Westminster pulled out to a two-goal lead in the next minute and Page capped the scoring at the 7:49 mark.
The Wildcats had a chance for the tie in the final seconds, but a shot ricocheted off the post.
Inside the box: Sam Hills and
Jake Small also found nylon and Small added two assists for a three-point day. Stambaugh and
Walt Heiser led the defense with two caused turnovers. Small and
Mason Nester had an eye for the ball with four ground balls each. In net,
Alex Hammond was credited with 18 saves.
The Titans were led by a five-goal, two-assist day from Gavin Jones. In net, Bradley Green had 12 saves.
