WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College collected a pair of nonconference softball victories against Rosemont in the Wildcats' home-opener at Elm Park on Friday. The Wildcats claimed game one, 10-5, and game two, 9-1, in five innings. Penn College improved to 7-3 while dropping the Ravens to 2-6.
In game one:
The Wildcats scored nine unanswered runs with two in the third, five in the fourth and two in the fifth to gain a 10-4 lead. Penn College batted around for five runs in the fourth when
Colleen Cole, Maggie Mangene and
Madison Shaffer started the inning off with three consecutive singles to right. Lorson reached on a fielder's choice that scored Cole and
Madison Herriman cleared the bases with a single to right and an error got her to third while scoring Mangene, Shaffer and Lorson.
Ivvy Morder added to the score with an RBI single to score Herriman. The single was also Morder's 100th career hit to become the sixth Wildcat to reach the century mark. The senior catcher plated the final two runs of the game with a two-run double in the fifth.
Morder finished with two hits and three RBIs while
Lexi Snyder had a team-high three hits, adding two RBIs and scored once.
Mackenzie Weaver collected nine strikeouts and scattered eight hits in the win.
In game two: Penn College continued to roll in game two, scoring six runs in the fourth inning to break open the game.
Jesse Brumbaugh got a one-out single to center and
Sofia LaSpina followed with an RBI double to score
Hailey DeBrody who came in for Brumbaugh. Lorson later scored LaSpina with a single. Herriman and Morder hit back-to-back RBI singles for the 7-1 lead.
Herriman went 3-for-3 with an RBI and scored once while Morder added two more hits and three RBIs.
Hailey DeBrody earned her first win of the season in the circle with the complete-game performance.
