Ware, Hunt & Green Earn Regional Honors

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- When the dust settled on Saturday, for the second consecutive season, Penn College saw three of its wrestlers finish among the top eight in their respective weights at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships. It marked the first time in program history with back-to-back seasons with at least three regional medalists.

Freshman Kaden Ware of Brooklyn, Connecticut, ended sixth at 133, while junior Noah Hunt of Muncy at 141 and freshman Travis Green of Manchester, Maryland, at 165 both were eighth, marking the first time the college ever had two freshman podium.

With 33 team points, Penn College placed 16thin a 21-team field.

After going 2-0 on Friday, Ware, ranked sixth at 133, fell to top-seeded Isaias Torres of Ithaca in a 4-1 decision in his championship bracket semifinal. In his consolation semifinal against fifth-ranked Frank DiEsso of Muhlenberg, Ware dropped a 4-3 decision, and bowed out with a medical forfeit in the fifth-place match. Ware concluded his freshman campaign with a 34-13 record.

Hunt and Green both were 3-1 in their first-day matches. In their fifth-round consolation bouts on Saturday, Hunt was pinned in 2:11 and Green suffered a 5-2 loss.

That pitted Hunt against fifth-seed Sam Kotch of TCNJ in a battle for seventh place. Kotch scored a 19-4 technical fall as Hunt ended 3-3 in the tournament and 31-13 on the season. Hunt placed fifth in 2022 and sixth last year in regional competition.

In his quest for seventh place, Green fell, 10-3 to DJ Slovick of Pitt-Bradford to end 3-3 in the tourney and 36-18 on the season.
