Balfanz Powers Widcats to Game Two Victory at Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Mason Balfanz drove in four runs as part of a 15-run game two to power Penn College baseball to a nonconference doubleheader split at Geneva on Friday. Geneva claimed a 10-3 win in game one before the Wildcats responded with a 15-11 victory in the nightcap. Penn College improved to 6-10 while Geneva is 8-6.

In game one,
The Wildcats grabbed the first lead of the game in the second inning when Brandon Shane scored on an error from the shortstop. Penn College tacked on another run in the third when Matt Munoz hit an RBI single to right to score Adam Aldenderfer and tie the game at 2-2. Geneva scored the next eight runs before the Wildcats added a run in the sixth when Dallas Griess brought in Munoz with a single to right.

Aldenderfer led the Wildcats at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Shane and Munoz added a run while Griess and Munoz had RBIs. Mason Balfanz lasted 2.1 innings giving up just three hits in the loss. Balfanz, Gabe Reptsik and Braydon Snyder combined for six strikeouts.

In game two,
The Wildcat offense came alive to score at least one run in six of seven innings. Penn College hung a five-spot in the second inning. The Wildcats benefitted from four Golden Tornado errors in the inning as Balfanz was the first to cross the plate on an error from the shortstop to score from third and Ethan Stahl reached on an error resulting in John Croasdale reaching home. One batter later, Griess hit an RBI single to bring in Logan Hinnershitz. Stahl and Griess rounded the bases when Townsend put a ball in play to the second baseman.

The Wildcats plated a run in the third, fourth and fifth innings before another four-run sixth gave Penn College a 12-7 lead. After loading the bases, Shane worked the count for an RBI walk and Balfanz doubled to right to clear the bases.

PCT tacked on three runs in the seventh with Townsend hitting a two-run single and Croasdale walked with the bases loaded to send in Townsend.
