Wildcats Lacrosse Earns First Win of Season

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Penn College men's lacrosse started its spring break on a high note as the team collected its first victory of the season at William Pace on Sunday. The Wildcats scored five goals in all four quarters for a 20-5 victory and improve to 1-3 on the season while dropping the Pacers to 1-3.

How it happened: Penn College wasted no time getting on the board in the first minute of action as AJ Dotson put away the first goal. Will Ehret added the team's second goal at the 12:13 mark. Aidan McFalls, Mason Nester and Sam Nice all scored in the opening quarter for a 5-1 lead. 

In the second, Dotson, McFalls, Brendan Kuczma and Jake Small all scored for a 9-3 lead before Brody Borkowski added the 10th goal of the day with a minute remaining before the half.  

The Wildcats went on a five-goal run in the third quarter with Schlachta and Gage Mcclune scoring once within the first two minutes of the third frame. Dotson netted the next two goals at the 11:58 and 8:45 marks for his hat-trick performance and Schlachta made the score 15-3 with his second goal at the 5:12 mark. 

Schlachta opened the fourth quarter with his third goal followed by Jesse Weick and Paul Hornberger. Dylan Keene added a man-down goal with 6:44 to play and Connor Stank put the finishing touches on the afternoon with a goal with 1:44 left in the contest.

Inside the box: 14 Wildcats found nylon and 17 registered a point against the Pacers in the victory. Dotson (4) and Schlachta (3) both registered a hat-trick to lead the offense while McFalls also scored twice and added an assist for three points. 

Nester anchored the defense with four caused turnovers while Dax Shallis, Alex Hammond and Ryan Twist combined for five saves in net. Brody Borkowski went to work at the faceoff, winning 10-of-13 times and collecting eight ground balls.

Dante Baranello led the Pacers with two goals. 

Up next: Penn College heads to Greensboro College on Wednesday afternoon for a 1 p.m. faceoff.
