Second Half Lifts Wildcats Past Pride

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Penn College outscored Greensboro, 7-2, in the second half in a 13-10 win over Greensboro in a nonconference men's lacrosse game Wednesday. The Wildcats improved to 2-3, while the Pride fell to 2-3.

How it happened: After Greensboro opened the fourth quarter with a four-second goal, Penn College scored the game's final five goals by five different Wildcats to turn a 10-8 deficit into a three-goal victory. AJ Dotson scored the game-tying goal at 10-10 with a man-up opportunity a minute before Devin Page tallied the game-winner and collected his second hat-trick of the season with his third goal of the afternoon with 10:25 left in the contest. Andrew Tavarez netted his first career goal with 9:52 left and Harrison Schlachta tacked on another insurance goal with 7:10 to go.

The two teams traded goals for a 4-4 tie after the first 15 minutes of action and the Pride went on a three-goal run in the second quarter to pull ahead 7-4 before Page stopped the run midway through the quarter. Aidan McFalls pulled the Wildcats within two (8-6) with a minute remaining before the half.

McFalls and Page scored at the 14:20 and 6:08 marks, respectively, in a low-scoring third quarter to get within one (9-8) and set up the fourth quarter comeback.

Inside the box: Schlachta, McFalls, and Will Ehret all scored twice in the contest to lead the Wildcat offense. Michael Stank won 10-16 faceoffs to gain possession and Alex Hammond stopped four shots in goal for the win. Penn College was a perfect 12-for-12 on clears and won the turnover battle 10-20 over the Pride.

Will Beyer led Greensboro with a five-goal day and added an assist.

Up next: Penn College returns to UPMC Field on Saturday to take on Shenandoah at 1 p.m.
