MANHEIM, Pa. -- Two Penn College wrestlers earned 2023-24 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-America honors while the team earned a national top-25 finish, the organization announced on Wednesday. Junior 141-pounder
Noah Hunt became the first four-time Scholar All-American in program history and was joined by freshman 165-pounder
Travis Green to earn individual honors. In order to be recognized, a wrestler must have at least a 3.2 GPA and either place in the regional tournament or have at 66% or greater winning percentage in a season with at least 15 matches.
"Through their unwavering dedication, these student-athletes and teams showcase a commitment that extends beyond the mat and into the classroom. Congratulations to each of this year's recipients," shared Mike Moyer, NWCA Executive Director.
Hunt posted a 31-11 record this season and held the best winning percentage (0.738) on the squad during his junior campaign that saw him reach the top of the podium at the AMCC Championships a third-place finish at Springfield's Doug Parker Invite, fourth at the RIT Invite, sixth at the Ithaca Invite, and eighth at the Mideast Regional Championship to collect his fourth Scholar All-America award. An accounting major, Hunt became the program's first three-time regional medalist and holds a career record of 84-39.
Green collected his first honor after a team-best 36-17 record in his freshman campaign. The Welding & Fabrication Engineering Technology major medaled at the RIT Invite (3rd), Penn College Invite (5th) and Ithaca Invite (6th). Green finished his freshman season eighth at the Mideast Regional Championship.
As a team, the Wildcats finished at No. 23 with a 3.53 GPA for its first-ever appearance in the national academic honors list. The team GPA listed is the overall cumulative GPA of the ten regional starters with up to two alternates.
