Penn College Splits Doubleheader Versus Abington

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College baseball split a United East Conference doubleheader against Penn State Abington on Sunday. The Wildcats claimed a 6-2 victory in game one before falling 9-8 in a weather-shortened game two. Penn College's United East record is 4-5, 13-14 overall. Abington is 8-4, 11-17 overall.

In game one,
The Wildcat offense struck first in the bottom of the first when Quinn Hanafin doubled to drive in Shane Townsend. Abington tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth before the Wildcats plated four runs in the bottom of the frame for a 5-1 lead. Logan Hinnershitz brought in John Croasdale with an RBI single and later scored on a bases-loaded walk by Jaiden Augustine. Hanafin drove in the last two runs of the inning with a single to score Dallas Griess and Brandon Shane.

Matt Munoz hit an RBI single in the sixth for the final run of the game. Hanafin finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the cleanup spot while Griffin Vollman earned the win after giving up just two runs in five innings of work.

In game two,
Abington jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Penn College plated two runs in the first, one in the second and five in the third to come all the way back and tie the game. Abington plated a run in the fifth to regain the lead before earning a six-inning victory due to weather.

Griess and Augustine both finished with three hits at the top of the order and combined for five runs. Shawn Townsend, Hanafin and Shane each had two RBIs.
