SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.  — Penn College tennis teams split in their home United East matches against Penn State Berks on Sunday as the women won 8-1 and the men lost 5-4.
With their second win in as many days, the Penn College women are 1-2 in the UE and 4-6 overall while the men are 1-3 UE and 1-7 overall. Berks men are 2-2 UE and 3-5 overall and its women are 0-4 UE and 0-8 overall.
How it happened: The Penn College women won five of six singles matches and all three doubles matches. In men's action, the teams split in six singles matches and Berks took two of the three in doubles.
Inside the box: Winning in singles for the women were Ellen Buckley at No. 1, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4; Lauren Peck at No. 2, 6-0, 6-1; Faith Murray at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1; Georgia Macensky at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0; and Kayla Weinzierl at No. 5, 6-1, 6-0. In doubles, winners were Buckley-Peck at No. 1, 8-3; Murray-Macensky at No. 2, 8-0; and Weinzierl-Mia Clark at No. 3, 8-1.
Winning in singles for the men were Logan Ogden at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2; Matt Williams at No. 5, 6-2, 6-0; and Jayden Manbeck at No. 6, 6-2, 7-5. Williams-Will Long won at No. 3 doubles, 8-8, 10-5 tiebreaker.
