HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – Penn College swept Elmira College in a pair of nonconference softball games Monday to give head coach Angie Stackhouse her 100
th career win. The Wildcats improved to 17-7 after a 13-0 win in the first game and a 10-0 victory in the second.
Stackhouse is the quickest coach in program history to reach 100 wins by achieving the feat in three and half seasons (her first season was cut short due to the pandemic).
In game one,
Penn College took a 3-0 first inning lead after a single by
Lexi Snyder and
Mackenzie Weaver's two-run double to center. The Wildcats tacked on five in the second when
Margaret Mangene and
Grace Lorson both drew bases loaded walks, Snyder and Weaver both brought in a run on ground outs, and
Hailey DeBrody singled to center. PCT ended the game in the fifth after an error plated two runs and Mangene, Weaver, and DeBody all drew bases loaded walks.
Madison Shaffer led Penn College at the plate with two hits, while the team finished with eight knocks and 10 walks. Weaver tossed a one-hit shutout, with six strikeouts and improved to 9-5.
In game two,
DeBrody's two-run homer to left field gave Penn College 2-0 lead in the second before Snyder drove in a pair with a single to center in the third. Sofia Laspin legged out a two-run inside-the-park home run to make it 6-0 in the fourth before Lorson added another run with an RBI in the inning. Shaffer doubled to right in the fifth and
Madison Herriman made it 10-0 with a double to right in the fifth.
Herriman, Snyder, DeBrody, and Shaffer all picked up two hits for PCT.
Fayth Anderson improved to 7-2 with a five-hit shutout, while striking out five.
