Penn College sweeps Abington

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College swept Penn State Abington in a United East softball doubleheader Thursday. The Wildcats improved to 9-1 United East, 19-7 overall after an eight inning, 2-1, win in game one and a 9-0 shutout in the nightcap.

In game one,
Abington took a 1-0 lead in the second inning before Grace Lorson's double in the sixth tied the game at 1-1 and eventually forced extra innings. The Lions went down in order in the top of the eighth, including two strikeouts from Mackenzie Weaver, leading to Madison's Herriman's sacrifice bunt to start the bottom of the eighth, and Maggie Mangene's walk-off single that scored Madison Shaffer.

Lexi Snyder led Penn College's offense with a pair of hits, while Weaver improved to 10-5 after surrendering one earned, on four hits, with 15 strikeouts, and one walk.

In game two,
The Wildcats added five in the first inning on an error, a two-run double by Ivvy Morder, and a two-run single from Jesse Brumbaugh. Weaver's sacrifice fly in the second made it 6-0 before the Wildcats added three in the fourth with RBIs from Lexi Snyder, Weaver, and Hailey DeBrody.

Seven players picked up a hit for Penn College, while Weaver, Morder, and Brumbaugh each batted in two runs. Anderson fired a one-hitter, with eight strikeouts, and one walk to improve to 8-2.

Up next: Penn College returns to action Saturday, 4 p.m., hosting Penn State Berks.
