ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- Penn College baseball split a United East Conference doubleheader at St. Mary's, claiming an 8-3 victory in game one before falling 8-0 in the nightcap. The Wildcats sit at 5-7 in conference contests, 16-16 overall while the Seahawks moved to 4-8 UE, 7-15 overall after the series.
In game one,
The Wildcats broke through a scoreless tie with two runs in the third inning. After the Seahawks responded to tie the game at two in the fifth, the Wildcats added three runs in the sixth with three base hits from
Quinn Hanafin,
Adam Aldenderfer and
Matt Munoz for a 5-2 lead.
Jaydon Goebel and
Dallas Griess belted solo homers and
Shawn Townsend hit an RBI double in the seventh in the win.
Goebel went 3-for-3 in the early game with an RBI and two runs scored. Griess brought in three runs and scored once and Munoz finished 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.
Sam Staib was credited with his third victory on the mound after tossing 1.2 innings of relief with two strikeouts and one hit.
The Wildcats were held to just five hits in the 8-0 game two final.
