Shaffer & Herriman Lead Wildcats' Sweep of Chargers

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Madison Shaffer and Madison Herriman both had walk-off hits to help Penn College in a sweep of Lancaster Bible in United East softball action on Monday afternoon. The Wildcats won both games in five innings with a 8-0 final in game one before a 10-2 final in game two. Penn College improved to 12-4 in UE play, 22-8 overall while the Chargers are 5-11, 13-20 overall.

In game one,
Shaffer stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning with a 6-0 Wildcats lead and Colleen Cole and Ivvy Morder on second and third. The Wildcat senior roped her 100th career hit, joining fellow seniors Morder and Maggie Mangene to reach the milestone this season, to center field scoring Cole and Morder for the run-rule victory.

The Wildcats scored three runs in each of the first and third inning as Shaffer finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs in the game. Herriman, Jesse Brumbaugh and Mackenzie Weaver all added two hits. Weaver drove in two RBIs with a double in the first and earned the victory in the circle with a one-hit shutout and struck out four.

In game two,
The Wildcats bats stayed hot as the team scored two runs in the first on a Lexi Snyder double, scoring Mangene and Herriman and three runs in the fourth when Morder hit a two-run double to score Weaver and Snyder. Morder later scored on a Sofia LaSpina ground out for a 5-2 lead.

A five-run fifth inning ended the game early when Morder hit her second double in the game to score Snyder. LaSpina singled to drive in Jesse Brumbuagh and Morder. Later, the Wildcats loaded the bases with Brumbaugh, LaSpina and Shaffer for Herriman's walk-off hit and an error by the center fielder plated all three runs.

Herriman and Morder both finished game two with two hits and three RBIs each and Fayth Anderson recorded her 10th victory of the season in a complete-game effort.
