READING, Pa. – Penn College completed a three-game sweep against Penn State Berks in a United East baseball doubleheader Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 3-3 United East, 11-11 overall after an 8-0 win in the first game and an 11-5 victory in the nightcap. The Nittany Lions fell 2-9-1, 3-20-1.
In game one,
Penn College took an early 2-0 lead with RBI singles from
Adam Aldenderfer and
Matt Munoz in the first and made it 6-0 with four runs in the second.
Quinn Hanafin's double brought in a pair, while
Shawn Townsend and an error plated the other runs in the second for PCT. Townsend and Aldenferfer both drove in a run in the sixth.
Hanafin led the Wildcats at the plate with three hits, while
Dallas Griess,
Brandon Shane, and Aldenderfer all had two hits.
Griffin Vollman improved to 2-1 after a complete-game three-hit shutout. He struck out four and walked three.
In game two,
The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in the third on
Jaiden Augustine's single and a Townsend sacrifice to center. After Berks got a run back in the bottom of the third, Penn College added five in the fourth when
Logan Hinnershitz doubled,
John Croasdale singled, and Griess belted a three-run homer to right to make it 7-1.
The Wildcats tacked on two in the fifth on Croasdale's two-run double and added two in the seventh on an RBI from Hinnershitz and a wild pitch.
Augustine finished with four hits for PCT,
Brandon Shane added three, and Hinnershitz and Croasdale both picked up a pair of hits.
Ethan Eckard earned his first win after two innings of work, allowing no earned runs, on three hits, with one strikeout.
