WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College women's volleyball fell to Lycoming College and Hartwick in the season opening tournament at Lycoming College on Friday night. The Wildcats opened the Coach Hawk-era with a 3-0 setback to tournament host Warriors by scores of 25-12, 26-24, and 25-14 before falling in four sets to Hartwick (25-11, 25-21, 25-14, 25-11). The Wildcats are 0-2 while the Warriors and Hawks both start 1-0.
Against Lycoming: PCT dropped the opening set but responded by scoring five of the first seven points in the second set until Lycoming rallied for a 6-6 tie. The two sides were locked into a tight battle for the rest of the set before the Warriors earned a 26-24 victory and closed the match with a 25-14 third set.
Wildcats newcomer Navaeh Ward shined in her collegiate debut with a team-high six kills and two service aces while adding 12 digs on the defensive end.
Kathryn Burnett dished out 12 assists and
Jo Hess pitched in with a team-best 16 digs on the defensive end.
Against Hartwick: The Hawks claimed the first set victory before the Wildcats earned their first set win of the season with an
Ava Harple kill for a 25-21 score in set two. Hartwick took the final two sets for the match win.
Ward finished the match just shy of a double-double performance with nine kills and nine digs. Harple added six kills and
Hailey DeBrody had three to lead the Wildcats. Burnett posted 23 assists while
Lana Howard, DeBrody and Ward all earned one block.
