Wildcats Split John Jay Tri-Match

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Penn College earned split outcomes at the John Jay Tri-Match in nonconference women's volleyball on Friday evening. The Wildcats earned their first sweep of the season over Old Westbury before falling to the host, Bloodhounds. Penn College improved to 2-7, the Panthers are 1-2 and Bloodhounds are 8-1.

How it happened: The Wildcats posted 25 kills and forced 22 errors in a 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 victory against Old Westbury. Penn College capped the first set with a six-point run which included two service aces by Nevaeh Ward, two kills from Eliza Newcomer and once from Kathryn Burnett. After the Panthers took a 2-0 lead in set two, Ava Harple rattled off three straight service aces to give the Wildcats a 4-2 lead and never fell behind for the 25-18 win. Harple finished off the match in the third set with a kill off a Burnett assist.

Against John Jay, The Bloodhounds earned set scores of 25-13, 28-26 and 25-18 to win the match.

Inside the box: Ward combined for 13 kills, nine aces and six digs on the day. Burnett finished with 28 assists, seven kills, and two aces and Harple scored 16 digs and six aces. 

Up next: Penn College returns to Bardo Gym for its home-opener on Tuesday at 6 p.m., against King's.
