Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Penn College Tops Gwynedd Mercy

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College men's soccer topped Gwynedd Mercy in a nonconference match on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats improved to 3-2-1 and continued its four-match unbeaten streak while the Griffins dropped to 1-4-1.

How it happened: Despite playing in back-to-back days, Penn College was the aggressor all day against the Griffins. The Wildcats came out hot, outshooting the Griffins 13-4 including three shots on goal, but could not get enough of an open look to put points on the board in the first half.

Penn College's golden opportunity came in the 55th minute when Logan Stapleton received a pass to the left of the box, dribbled in and got fouled inside the 18 which paved the way for Tommy DeGeyter to convert on the penalty kick. The Wildcats did not let up in the final 35 minutes to make sure Gwynedd Mercy did not have an opportunity at the equalizer.

Inside the box: Cole Catherman earned the clean sheet victory after scooping up three saves. DeGeyter and Alex Heiser were credited with two shots on goal and six other Wildcats put a shot on frame. The Wildcats lined up for eight corners while not surrendering a Griffins corner.

Up next: Penn College is back in action on Tuesday at 5 p.m., against Pitt Bradford on UPMC Field.
