WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College erased a 14-point third quarter deficit en route to a 62-56 win over Penn State-Brandywine in a United East women's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 5-1 United East, 8-7 overall, while the Nittany Lions fell to 0-6, 1-13.
How it happened: Trailing 45-31, with 3:10 left in the third, Penn College went on an 8-0 run -with six points from
Emily Pardee and two by
Rachel Teats – to pull within six, 45-39, at the end of the period.
Lexi Troup's layup with 6:06 left in the game made it a one-possession contest, 51-49, before the Lions went ahead by five, 54-49, two minutes later. PCT answered with a 4-0 run to get within one, 54-53, on a
Gigi Parlante free throw with two minutes left before Teats' traditional three-point play put the Wildcats ahead for good, 58-56, with 55 seconds left. Teats went 4 of 4 from the line in the final 24 seconds to ice the game.
Penn College held the lead for the majority of the first quarter before the Lions took a 10-9 edge to end the quarter. The Wildcats opened the second with a 13-2 run to lead 22-12 on a Troup layup with 5:53 left before the break. The Lions responded with an 18-3 run to close out the quarter ahead 30-25 at halftime.
Inside the box: Teats finished with a team-high 15 points and added seven rebounds. Parlante picked up her 10
th double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 boards, while Pardee added 12 points, and Troup finished with 11.
