Penn College Drops UE Contest at Brandywine

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn College dropped an 83-73 United East men's basketball game at Penn State Brandywine Wednesday evening. The Wildcats fell to 4-5 UE, 6-12 overall while the Lions improved to 1-8 UE, 4-14 overall.

How it happened: A sluggish shooting start from the Wildcats paved the way for Brandywine to take an 11-point lead, 29-18 with 4:30 to go in the first half before the Wildcats closed the half on a 13-5 run, fueled by 11 points from Livingston Cross to pull the Wildcats within three, 34-31 at the break.

The Wildcats remained on the hunt in the second frame when DJ Smith III nailed a three to tie the game at 42-42 with 15 minutes left to play. The next time Penn College went down the floor, Cross got the next layup to fall after being fouled to completed the three-point play as the Wildcats gained their first lead of the night. Brandywine pulled ahead for good with 11 minutes left as the Wildcats tried to regain a lead after keeping the Lions within a two possession score over the final 10 minutes before time ran under one minute and the Lions pulled away.

Inside the box: Cross finished with his 15th double-double of the season, reaching his season average of 21 points and 10 rebounds, as he drained half of the teams six 3s on the night. Gavin Barrett dropped 17 points and added four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Ronn Flood, Jr., added 14 points and Smith III scored eight.

The Wildcats shot just 37.5% (21-56) while the Lions converted on 47.6% (30-63) of their shots and four double-digit scorers.
