Harrisburg Edges Wildcats; Teats Scores 1K Career Points

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College dropped a 53-50 decision against Penn State Harrisburg in a United East women's basketball game Saturday. The Nittany Lions improved to 3-2 UE, 9-4 overall, while the Wildcats fell to 3-1, 6-7.

How it happened: Harrisburg jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the first quarter before Emily Pardee and Rachel Teats closed the gap to one, 7-6, on consecutive buckets with six minutes left. Teats later deadlocked the game at 12 on a jumper with 2:44 on the clock before a Kenni Galbreath three with 49 seconds left gave PCT its first lead, 15-14. The Lions scored a late basket to lead 16-15 at the end of the first.

Harrisburg outscored PCT, 18-11, in the second quarter to lead 34-26 at halftime.

The Lions built a double-digit advantage early in the third quarter and took a 44-31 advantage with 4:19 left in the period. The Wildcats answered with a 7-0 run – with five from Lexi Troup and two from Teats, to pull within six, 44-38 with two minutes left.  Harrisburg scored a late basket to lead 46-38 at the end of the quarter.

Penn College erased a 50-44 Lions advantage with six straight Teats baskets to tie the game at 50-50 with 30 seconds left in the game. The Lions went ahead 52-50, with 18 seconds left, but the Wildcats turned the ball over on their next possession and the Lions hit a late free throw to ice the game.

Inside the box: Teats scored a game-high 23 points to reach 1,000 career points. She joins Alicia Ross '17, Jamie Steer '16, and Kierstin Steer '13 as the fourth player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.

Troup finished with nine points and Pardee added right.
