LA PLUME, Pa. -- Penn College fell, 93-78 in a United East men's basketball clash at Keystone on Wednesday evening. The Wildcats dropped to 3-2 in the conference, 5-9 overall. The Giants moved to 2-2 UE, 5-6 overall.
How it happened:Â Fueled by a 31-point performance from
Livingston Cross, Penn College fought all the way back from a 16-point first-half deficit until Cross knocked down a pair of free throws to tied the game at 55-55 with 11:31 remaining in the second half. The Wildcats gained momentum after Cross' game-tying free throws as
Julien Leveille scored on the next Wildcat possession,
Joe Savage went 1-for-2 at the line and Cross cleaned up the Savage miss to pull the Wildcats in front, 60-57 with 10:24 to play.
Keystone responded with a furious 36-20 run over the final 10 minutes to regain the lead and close out the game. The Giants forced seven turnovers and held the Wildcats without a field goal in the last five minutes. Penn College was able to convert on all six of their free throw attempts.
The Giants held the lead for the full 20 minutes of the first half to take a 44-35 advantage at halftime.Â
Inside the box: Cross scored a game-high 31 points as he sits just 15 points away from the 1,000 mark for his career, and polished off his 12th double-double of the season after grabbing a season-high 20 rebounds.
Gavin Barrett posted a 14-point, 11-assist double-double while adding seven boards in his quest for a triple-double before getting into foul trouble.
Michael Wiilridge and
Julien Leveille both aided the Wildcats scoring with 10 points each. Despite winning the rebounding battle, 50-31, the Wildcats had 17 turnovers compared to just six by the Giants.
Keystone saw three player reach 20 points in the game.
