WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College fell, 52-51, on a buzzer-beating three by Elmira in a nonconference women's basketball game Wednesday evening inside Bardo Gym. The Wildcats dropped to 5-1, while the Soaring Eagles improved to 3-2.
How it happened: With just 1.7 second left on the clock, Elmira threw up a desperation three from the inbound that jumped off the rim and in as the buzzer sounded for the game-winner.Â
In a back-and-forth game throughout, Elmira held a 13-9 edge after the first quarter before PCT pulled within one with a
Kayla Herzer layup late in the second quarter for a 22-21 score at the half. Elmira pulled out to its largest lead of the game, 37-38, with 2:12 left in the third frame, but a three by
Kenni Galbreath and a bucket from
Breana Valentine got the Wildcats back to a two-possession game heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth, The Wildcats and Eagles went shot-for-shot until Herzer sparked the Wildcat offense with two quick transition buckets to put the Wildcats ahead, 50-49 with 28 seconds left to set up the finish.
Inside the box: Penn College converted on 33% (21-63) and 26% from three-point range (7-27) as the scoring was led by
Gigi Parlante's 13 points while adding nine boards. Valentine finished with 10 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists and
Lexi Troup poured in eight points including a pair of 3s. Herzer and
RaeAnna Andreas both pitched in wht six points.Â
The Wildcats came away with 13 steals and forced 19 turnovers.
