WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Hosting the PCT Duals on Saturday, Penn College's wrestling team split, besting Averett University, 30-14, and falling to Alvernia University, 31-13. Penn College is now 1-1, while Alvernia is 3-0 and Averett is 4-3. Penn State Altoona had been scheduled to participate, but pulled out.
On the mat: Wildcats Blake Dergham, at 133 pounds, Chase Shaner, at 141, and TJ Martin, at 157 and 149, all ended the day 2-0 in their bouts. Nicholas Woodruff, at 197, was 1-0, while David M'Balla, at 149 and 157, Carter Davis, at 165, Cole Shupp, at 184, and Nicholai Brotzman, at 285, finished 1-1.
Dergham picked up a regionally ranked victory over Averett's AJ Orlando, ranked third in Region 4, by a 10-4 major decision to begin his 2-0 day before dispatching Alvernia's Steven Harris, 9-4. Shaner topped his Averett and Alvernia opponents, 6-1, 11-5, respectively. Martin bumped up to 157 to defeat Averett's Jackson Higgins, 3-0 and won at 149 against Alvernia's Region 3 ranked Quinn Tobin.
The field: In the day's other match, Alvernia turned back Averett, 22-19.
