WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College held off Keuka, 74-67, in a nonconference women's basketball victory Saturday afternoon inside Bardo Gym. The Wildcats improved to 2-0 while tke Wolves fell in its season opener, 0-1.
How it happened: Down, 49-48 heading into the final 10 minutes, the Wildcats exploded for 26 points in the final quarter to earn the victory.
Lexi Troup hist a layup anf was fouled to complete the 3-point play and give the Wildcats a 51-49 lead. Breanna Valentine made a pair of layups and
Gigi Parlante drove to the rim in a seven-point run to ignite the offense. Valentine finished the final frame with nine of her 25 points while
Mia Patterson and Troup finished with three points in the quarter.
Penn College started off with a 16-13 lead in the first quarter with Valentine dropping seven points,
Hailey Theuret drained a pair of buckets and
Kenni Galbreath scored three in the opening frame.
Gigi Parlante made her presence felt in the second quarter with 17 of the Wildcats 22 points to give Penn College a 38-32 lead at the half.
Inside the box: Valentine and Parlante led the Wildcats with 25 points each. Parlante added a team-high seven rebounds, four assists and five steals in the win. The Wildcats shot 45% (26-58) and 22-for-28 at the free throw line while the defense forced 26 Keuka turnovers.
