SCRANTON, Pa. -- Penn College fell to Marywood, 65-54, in a Monday night nonconference women's basketball game. The Wildcats dropped just their second game of the season and sit 9-2. The Pacers improved to 5-4.
How it happened: The Pacers led from the jump and held off the Wildcats for 38 of the 40 minutes. Marywood led 12-8 after the first quarter and used a 25-point second quarter to take a 37-22 lead at the half.
Penn College cut into the Pacer lead during the third quarter as
Gigi Parlante scored the first five points for the Wildcats and her layup with just over four minutes got the Wildcats within eight of the Pacers, 35-43.
Breana Valentine cut the lead to a two-possession game on a fastbreak layup on the next possession, but it was the closest the Wildcats could get as the Pacers went back up, 50-41 at the end of the third and maintained its double-digit lead through the fourth quarter.
Inside the box: Parlante finished the game with her fifth double-double of the season with a game-high 17 points and 13 rebounds while also adding four assists, four blocks and a steal. Valentine added 16 points and a team-best five assists and
Mia Patterson finished with 12 points, three steals and thee boards.
The Wildcats were held scoreless behind the arc (0-8) and 38% (24-64) shooting overall. Marywood converted 41% (26-63) and utilized its bench with a 32-6 bench points advantage.
