HUNTINGTON, Pa. – Penn College cruised to a 19-4 nonconference men's lacrosse victory to earn its first win over the season on Wednesday evening at Juniata. The Wildcats improved to 1-2 while dropping the Eagles to 0-3.
How it happened: The Wildcats opened the game with the first seven goals and took an 8-1 with a goal by
Owen Kupsey with 1:04 left in the second quarter.
Gage Mcclune scored a first half hat-trick while
Will Ehret,
Aidan McFalls,
Levi Borkowski and
AJ Dotson also beat the Juniata keeper in the first half
.
Harrison Schlachta netted a man-up goal to start an eight-goal third quarter for the Wildcats. Ehret and Dotson both completed their hat-tricks with a pair of goals each in the third frame.
Jake Small,
Jesse Weick and
Leighton Acevedo also scored in the period.
Penn College added three more goals in the fourth as
Tyler Diffenderfer scored twice and John Dolezeal scored with two minutes remaining.
Inside the box: The Wildcats ripped off 57 shots and 39 on-goal while limiting the Eagles to just 35 shots (19 on-goal). Mcclune, Dotson and Ehret all netted their first hat-tricks of the season while Diffenderfer scored two goals and eight other Wildcats earned goals.
Ryan Twist posted eight saves in 40 minutes of work to earnt he victory while
Alex Hammond (3) and
Fisher Makuch (4) combined for seven saves in relief.
Connor Gentile led the defense with four caused turnovers and one ground ball. Kupsey added three caused turnovers while
CJ Jones and Acevedo both posted two caused turnovers.
