MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — Penn College split a nonconference softball doubleheader at Messiah University on Saturday, winning 2-1 in eight innings and falling 13-3 in five innings. Penn College is now 2-2 and Messiah is 4-2.
game one: Lexi Snyder's two-run single in the top of the eighth inning snapped a scoreless tie and pitcher Mackenzie Weaver limited Messiah to one run in the bottom of the frame to pick up her second win in as many days with a six-strikeout, one-walk effort.
Game two: Messiah used a four-run second inning and eight-run third to take command before the Wildcats scored twice in the fourth and once in the fifth for all of their runs. Grace Lorson led Penn College with two hits, one run scored and one RBI. In her first start in the circle, freshman Mackenzi Tice went 3.2 innings and took the loss.
Up next: Penn College heads to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where it will begin a 10-game series in the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic against SUNY Canton at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 9.
