Wildcats Sweep Doubleheader at Altoona

ALTOOINA, Pa. – Penn College swept its third consecutive nonconference softball series after defeating Penn State Altoona on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats clawed out a 4-3 victory in 10 innings during game one while earning a 7-2 win in game two, improving their record to 12-7 while dropping the Lions to 7-7.

In game one,
Penn College struck early with a run in the top of the first inning when Lexi Snyder hit an RBI single to score Grace Lorson. Altoona responded with two runs in the third inning before the Wildcats knotted the game at two when Fayth Anderson crossed the plate in the fourth inning.

Two two sides scratched across a run in the ninth inning before the Wildcats scored the game-deciding run in the 10th on a Mackenzie Weaver RBI single to score Carissa Lusk.

Weaver earned her eighth victory in the circle while striking out six in the complete-game effort.
 
In game two,
Penn College jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in their first at-bats. Madison Herriman accounted for the first run on an Altoona error before Ryleigh Rinker smashed a two-run single to score Lexi Snyder and Weaver.  

Altoona scored both of its runs in the fourth inning before the Wildcats scored six unanswered in the final three frames. 

Herriman, Lorson, Weaver, Rinker and Crawford all posted two hits in the win. Weaver drove in a team-high three RBIs while Mackenzi Tice posted her second consecutive double-digit strikeout performance, fanning 10 Lions and picking up her fourth victory in the circle.

Up next: Penn College returns to Elm Park to take on cross-town rival, Lycoming in doubleheader action on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
