Penn College Doubles Up Notre Dame

Weaver Tosses 500th Career Strikeout

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College claimed two victories over Notre Dame to start United East action 2-0 on Saturday. The Wildcats took game one, 5-1, before needing extra innings to defeat the Gators, 5-4 in 11 innings.

Already the program's strikeout leader, senior Mackenzie Weaver pitched 10 innings across both games to earn her 500th career strikeout.

In game one,
Penn College got on the board first in the second inning when Logan Hamilton drove in Fayth Anderson. After the Gators tied the game in the top of the fourth, the Wildcats plated two runs in the bottom of the frame on a bases-loaded walk by Madison Herriman and a Weaver single which scored Lusk. PCT scored two in the sixth for the 5-1 final.

Weaver scattered seven hits and struckout five in the complete-game victory in the circle while batting a team-best 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Grace Lorson also had two hits and a run scored in the win.

In game two,
Needing just three more strikeouts to reach her milestone, Weaver went back to work in the circle and earned four Ks in the first four innings.

Notre Dame jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning before the Wildcats scratched one run across in the bottom of the inning with a Lexi Snyder RBI single. Herriman scored on an error in the fifth inning and Mackenzi Tice drove in Sofia LaSpina in the bottom of the seventh to extend the game.

The two sides added a run in the eighth and played scoreless ninth and 10th innings before Herriman ended the game on a wild pitch in the 11th.

Herriman went 3-for-6 with two runs scored while Tice also added three hits and an RBI and picked up the victory with eight Ks and just two hits surrendered.
