Wildcats split championship rematch against Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Penn College split a United East softball double-header against Wilson College in a rematch of last season's conference championship series. The Wildcats dropped the first game, 4-1, before winning the nightcap, 7-3, to improve to 3-1 UE, 17-8 overall.

In game one,
Penn College scored its lone run in the top of the fourth when Payton Crawford's single plated Madison Herriman. Wilson scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and tacked on two more in the fifth.

Herriman led PCT's offense with two hits. Mackenzie Weaver fell to 10-4 after 4.1 innings in the circle. She surrendered three earned, on nine hits, with a strikeout.

In game two,
After Wilson took a 1-0 lead in the second, the Wildcats tied game in the fourth and added two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and three in the seventh. Lexi Snyder smacked a solo homer in the fourth and Weaver's two run double to right in the fifth made it 3-1. After the Phoenix added two, and made it 4-3, in the sixth, Ryleigh Rinker's single, Crawford's double, and Fayth Anderon's single in the seventh added plenty of insurance runs.  

Snyder finished with three hits for Penn College, while Herriman and Harley Kunes picked up pair. Mackenzi Tice improved to 7-2 after a complete-game effort. She allowed three earned, on five hits, with six strikeouts, and one walk.

Up next: Penn College returns to action Saturday, 1 p.m., hosting Penn State Brandywine.
