Wildcats split with Cedar Crest

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Penn College split a United East softball doubleheader against Cedar Crest Tuesday. The Wildcats won the first game, 9-1, before dropping the second game, 5-3, and sit at 4-2 United East, 18-9 overall.

In game one,
Penn College took an early 3-0 lead after Ryleigh Rinker, Lexi Snyder, and Payton Crawford each brought in a run in the first inning and Madison Herriman's single in the second made it 4-0. Harley Kunes brought in a run in third before Sofia LaSpina launched a two-run home to center to make it 7-0. Rinker brought in two more runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

Six Wildcats finished with multiple hits, with Mackenzie Weaver and Crawford picking up three knocks, and Herriman, Rinker, Kunes, and LaSpina finishing with three hits. Rinker brought in a game-best three runs, while Herriman swiped three bags.

Weaver improved to 11-4 after six innings in the circle. She surrendered no earned runs, on three hits, with seven strikeouts, and one walk.

In game two,
The Falcons capitalized on a handful mistakes to take a 4-0 lead in the third on two wild pitches, a passed ball, and a sacrifice bunt. The Wildcats got on the board in the fifth on an error. After CC made it 5-1 in the fifth, PCT added two in the sixth with a Crawford fielder's choice and a double by Fayth Anderson.

Five players picked up a hit for the Wildcats while Mackenzi Tice fell to 7-3 after surrendering three earned, on seven hits, with 12 strikeouts, and two walks.

Up next: Penn College returns to action Saturday, 1 p.m., hosting Lancaster Bible.
