WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College softball earned a United East doubleheader split against Penn State Brandywine on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats took game one, 4-1, before falling, 7-2 in the second. The Wildcats sit at 5-3 UE, 19-10 overall. Brandywine moved to 7-1, 19-7.
In game one,
After Brandywine took an early lead on an RBI double in the second inning,
Grace Lorson put the Wildcats on the board to even the score at 1-1 with a hard-hit single up the middle to score
Harley Kunes.
Penn College plated three runs in the fourth to take command of the game.
Madison Herriman sparked the two-out rally with a single, while Kunes walked before
Mackenzie Weaver doubled to the centerfield fence to score Herriman.
Payton Crawford added an RBI single in the next at-bat and Lorson doubled to score Weaver for the three-run burst.
Weaver surrendered just one more hit across the final four innings while striking out seven in the complete-game victory on Senior Day. Crawford, Lorson, Snyder and Weaver all finished with two hits. Lorson drove in two runs while Kunes drew four walks and scored twice.
In game two,
The Wildcats were held to just three hits in the second game as Herriman went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
