WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College swept Lancaster Bible in a United East Softball doubleheader on Monday afternoon. The Wildcats claimed a 7-2 game one victory before walking off the nightcap with a 9-1 final in game two. The Wildcats extended their conference record to 7-3, 21-10 overall while dropping the Chargers to 1-5 UE, 11-14 overall.
In game one,
Penn College plated the first two runs of the afternoon with a
Harley Kunes sac fly to score
Madison Herriman in the bottom of the first inning. Kunes added an RBI single to score
Fayth Anderson in the second.
After the Chargers scored one run in the third inning,
Mackenzie Weaver shot a two-run single to right field, making the score, 4-1. The Wildcats tacked on three runs in the sixth on Weaver and
Grace Lorson singles and a
Lexi Snyder sac fly.Â
Weaver and
Payton Crawford led the Wildcats at the plate with three hits each. Weaver drove in three RBIs and scored once.
Grace Lorson and
Ryleigh Rinker also finished with two hits. Weaver spun 11 Ks while surrendering just four hits to earn the win in the circle.Â
In game two,
The Wildcats batted around to put up seven runs in the first inning. Weaver and Crawford produced the first two runs with back-to-back RBI singles to score Herriman and Kunes, respectively. Â
Astyn Calaman added to the score with an RBI single of her own to score Crawford.
Fayth Anderson drew an RBI walk and Snyder scored on a wild pitch to make the score 5-0. An LBC error brought in Calaman and Anderson for the seven-run lead.Â
Penn College put the pressure on in the fifth inning when Snyder and
Logan Hamilton worked for walks and Anderson was hit-by-pitch to load the bases. Herriman earned an RBI walk before Karley Kunes beat out an infield single to shortstop as
Sofia LaSpina who pinch ran for Hamilton crossed the plate for the run-rule victory.
Mackenzi Tice, who needed just four strikeouts to reach the 100 career Ks mark, struck out 11 Chargers to become the fifth Wildcat in program history to reach the mark in a single-season.
