La PLUME, Pa. -- Penn College defeated Keystone in a pair of five-inning United East softball games on Wednesday afternoon. The Wildcats earned a 14-2 game one victory before rolling in a 20-0 rout in game two. The Wildcats captured their second straight series sweep, improving their conference record to 9-3, 23-10 overall.
In game one,
Penn College struck early with three runs in the first, two in the second and three in the third to lead 8-2. One run in the top of the fourth for the Wildcats threatened to induce a run-rule victory in the fifth inning where the Wildcats exploded for five runs.
Madison Herriman led of the top of the fifth with a single before
Harley Kunes and
Mackenzie Weaver roped back-to-back RBI doubles and
Grace Lorson singled to drive in Weaver for a 12-2 lead. Later in the inning,
Astyn Calaman singled to score Lorson and Herriman drew a bases-loaded walk to plate
Lexi Snyder to lead 14-2.
Herriman led the offense with three hits, three RBIs, three runs scored and two stolen bases while Lorson and Calaman collected two hits. Weaver struck out six in her 14
th victory of the season.
In game two,
With one strong stroke of the bat resulting in an RBI triple down the right field line in the first inning and an RBI single in the second inning,
Mackenzie Weaver joined Taylor Krow (168) and Taylor Brooks (151) to become just the third Wildcat to reach the 150 career hits mark. Weaver's RBI single was part of a nine-run second inning by the Wildcats.
Penn College scored three in the first inning and four runs in both of the third and fourth innings.
Colleen Cole finished with a team-best four hits, five RBIs and a run scored.
Lexi Snyder added three hits and three RBIs while Herriman,
Harley Kunes, Calaman and
Fayth Anderson all earned two hits.
Mackenzi Tice allowed just two hits in the five-inning shutout to claim her ninth win in the circle.Â
