Wildcats split with Harrisburg

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College split a United East softball doubleheader against Penn State Harrisburg Tuesday. The Wildcat dropped the first game, 6-3, before shutting out the Lions, 5-0, in the nightcap to improve to 10-4 UE, 24-11.

In game one,
Penn College took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a one-run double from Ryleigh Rinker and an Astyn Calaman's RBI single to right. The Lions answered in the ensuing inning with six runs in the third inning. Rinker made it 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh on a single to left.

Rinker and Grace Lorson both finished with two hits for the Wildcats. Mackenzie Weaver fell to 14-5 after seven innings in the circler. She allowed five earned, on nine hits, with three strikeouts, and two walks.

In game two,
Weaver put the Wildcats on the board with a single in the first inning, before Harley Kunes' triple, and a Weaver single, in the third made it 3-0. Rinker made it 4-0 in the fifth with a single before Kunes added the sixth run in the sixth with a single to right.

Four players picked up a pair of hits for Penn College with Madison Herriman, Payton Crawford, Weaver, and Kunes all picking up two, while Kunes and Weaver drove in two runs each. Mackenzi Tice improved to 10-3 after a complete-game shutout She scattered four hits, with nine strikeouts and five walks.

Up next: Penn College wraps up the regular season Saturday, 1 p.m., at Penn State Berks.
