Wildcats Fall to Regular Season Champs

READING, Pa. -- Penn College softball dropped two games at Penn State Berks to wrap up the United East Conference regular season. The Lions took game one, 10-5 before finishing game two, 5-4 in eight innings. The Wildcats finished the regular season with a 10-6 mark in UE action and a 24-13 overall record. Berks earned the UE regular season title with a 16-0 mark, 23-7 overall.

In game one,
Berks scored twice in the third, five in the fourth and three in the fifth to take a 10-4 lead. The Wildcats earned one run in the top of the fourth on a Lexi Snyder single and Mackenzie Weaver blasted a three-run home run in the fifth. Carissa Lusk drove in Snyder with an RBI single in the sixth to cut the deficit, 10-5. 

Weaver and Snyder accounted for half of the Wildcats eight hits as both finished with two hits apiece.


In game two,
The Lions struck first with a three-run double in the bottom of the second before the Wildcats responded with four runs in the top of the third inning. Fayth Anderson led off the frame with a double and Madison Herriman singled to put runners in the corner. Harley Kunes, Weaver, and Grace Lorson posted RBI-singles in three of the next four at-bats and Payton Crawford reached on a fielder's choice to drive in Weaver to take the lead.

 Berks scratched across one run in the seventh and ended the game on a walk-off bunt single in the eighth.

Herriman, Kunes, Weaver and Lorson all finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Mackenzi Tice struck out seven in the loss.

Up next: Penn College locked up the No. 4 seed in the United East playoffs and will host #5 St. Elizabeth in a three-game series on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3.
