WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College outlasted Penn State Brandywine, 19-18 in game one of United East baseball action on Saturday. Game two was postponed due to rain. The Wildcats improved to 9-3 in conference, 16-14 overall and dropped the Lions to 1-11 UE, 5-25 overall.
How it happened:Â Penn College fought back from a 9-0 hole with three runs in the third and fourth innings, one in the fifth, five in the sixth to pull within a run, 13-12.
Shawn Townsend send a solo home run into the Wildcats Bullpen in right field to tie the game in the seventh and
Matt Munoz followed with a two-run blast to the same spot to take a 15-13 lead.
After Brandywine went ahead 18-16 with five runs runs in the ninth, the Wildcats rallied for the win in the bottom of the frame.
John Croasdale doubled and
Dallas Griess reached on an error to put runners on the corners. Senior
Nathan Gustkey came within inches of a walk-off homer as his double bounced off the top of the railing in right field to tie the game. Purnell and
Shawn Townsend were intentionally walked before
Jaydon Goebel hit the walk-off single up the middle.
Levi Purnell sparked the offense with two timely home runs to rack up four RBIs and two runs. Goebel finished with four hits while
Matt Munoz hit a three-run homer and finished with three hits along with Gustkey and Townsend.
Up next: The Wildcats and Lions will play game two on Monday at 4 p.m.
